EARLY CAREER SCIENTIST SUPPORT FOR WFC2021

The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) provides support to assist early career scientist participation in the WFC2021.

This support will cover a virtual registration fee only ($300 AUS for students and $450 AUS for non-student early career scientists). As limited funds are available, applicants will be selected based on how well their application is aligned with the symposium themes and confirmation that they fulfil the necessary criteria.

ICES support is available for those who meet all of the following criteria:

  • An early career scientist that meets at least one of the following: (a) 35 years of age or younger at the time of the WFC (born September 1986 or later), (b) currently enrolled in a PhD program, and/or (c) completed a PhD in the last 5 years at the time of the WFC (between September 2016 to September 2021).
  • An affiliation with ICES member countries. Applicants are asked to clearly identify that they meet at least one of the following: (a) a national of an ICES member country, (b) currently employed by an institute that is located in an ICES member country, and/or (c) studying at a university that is located in an ICES member country.
  • An accepted abstract for either a poster or oral presentation.

This support is contingent on in person or virtual attendance at the symposium. Early career scientist support for registration fees will be transferred directly from ICES to the local symposium organizers. Successful applicants can upgrade their registration to an in person registration, with the difference to be paid by the applicant. Please note that the symposium organizers cannot reimburse travel expense losses due to COVID-19 or other reasons, and this coverage and travel insurance protections should be supported by the home institutions of the symposium participants. As such, you are strongly encouraged to discuss your travel arrangements with your home institutions prior to booking travel and accommodation, and wherever feasible, book re-fundable options.

Applications close 31 May 2021.
